To my gorgeous backwoods sisters who never learned to blow-dry their hair and have no patience for foundation, My deep-mountain runners whose feet will never properly squish into dress shoes, To my bearded brothers with smokey clothes and black grease nails, You who love learning and challenge but grow bored of careers and small spaces, Who climb and laugh and search with more passion than is dignified, To my grand Alaska and sweet Appalachia, those sweeping mountains and deep green hollars, I have just one thing to ask of you. I need you to (please-it would mean the world to me)-- just stay wild.
For those of you who long for clear days with stable snow, who have the topo maps in Joe's book etched into their memories and the CNFAIC site loaded by 8 am each morning, and who dream of secret couloirs well into May, you are a wild and passionate tribe of people. This one is for you.
Alaska Public Media introduced a line of swag, including locally-printed apparel and stickers for the first time this spring. For the launch, I designed a collection of t-shirts and sweatshirts which were sold during pledge drives and events.
This illustration was sent out as a 13 by 15 inch save-the-date folded as a map. My goal was to show all the places that Marian and Kyle loved (they are amazing fly fishermen and have hiked all over Moose Pass and Cooper Landing) while drawing on Marian's artistic sensibility and Kyle's affection for maps.
Steve Heimel was a longstanding reporter at Alaska Public Media (and Alaska Public Radio Network, among other places, before that organization existed). As one of the leaders and personalities of the organization, his retirement was a celebration of his countless contributions. I did this illustration in honor of his impending departure from the organization.
Kenny River Cowboys embodies the creativity, grit, and fun-loving spirit of our home. When captain Matty of Kenai River Cowboys contacted me to illustrate a logo featuring a fisherman riding a trout, I was happy to embrace the challenge.
Teal Hetrick and Marques Hall invited me to do their wedding invitations featuring an octopus and a tall ship. It was an incredibly fun piece to do, and I completed the illustration set with a tall ship on the back.
Alaska Public Media requested a new logo for Kids Club, an outreach project for their young viewers and listeners. As the station that airs PBS Kids programs such as Clifford and Sesame Street, they’ve already won the hearts of kids all over the state.
